2/6/2026 - In reference to the article of January 9, 2026 ["New Parking Law Took Effect Jan 1, 2026"]
"Regardless of the presence or absence of official signs or curb... not real clear on this... Reading it it seems that there are parking prohibitions but marking the curbs (red painting them) is prohibited. Also, no attention is given to the big problems at the major intersections ie., Makala, Palani and many others of the problem of visibility of Traffic / Directional signals. Many times during the day depending on how the "sun is shining" it is nearly impossible to make out the allowed left hand turn arrows.....there ARE solutions for this, inexpensive and easy to put in place, but no consideration has been given to these solutions. Also, I think the "lack" of needed intersection improvements and the acknowledgement of by this legis. may suggest a potential liability on behalf of the County.

12/5/2023 - Left Turn from Queen Ka`ahumanu Hwy into PEK
"Let's get the Left Hand Turn fixed at Queen K and Puapuanui. It does not make sense to prohibit left hand turns (southbound lane) except on a green arrow. It is allowed up and down Queen K but not at our intersection."
12/5/2023 - Comments have been forwarded to the PEK Board/Traffic Committee for review and further action.
11/28/2023 - Left Turn from Queen Ka`au=humanu Hwy into PEK
"It's frustrating waiting for the left turn green arrow on Queen Hwy at Puapuaanui St to enter PEK. Even when there is no oncoming traffic for 1/2mile, the "computer " doesn't give you a green left turn arrow. I've seen violators make a left turn against the red arrow when there is no oncoming traffic.
On the Hwy at Lako St. left turn is permitted after the green arrow with a sign "Left Turn YIELD To Through Traffic". That intersection is much busier than ours. We need the same sign at Puapuaanui."
11/30/2023 - Comments have been forwarded to the PEK Board/Traffic Committee for review and further action.
5/18/2023 - When is the board going to start enforcing home owners clean up their hill and ditches? Some haven't cleaned them up for over 3 years. Why wasn't this included in the home assessments?
Previous Boards abandoned the surveillance of ditches and hillsides a number of years ago. Walking the ditches to monitor these areas is a difficult task and very few homeowners volunteer for this duty. Violation notices were sent only when a neighbor filed a formal complaint. The result was extremely uneven enforcement, as there is a wide range of expectations on what is considered acceptable. General condition of the ditches and hillsides deteriorated with time.
A year ago the Board resumed the practice of walking the ditches on a quarterly basis. Over the past year the Board has sent homeowners 70+ notices requesting improvements to the ditch and/or hillsides, including 29 sent after the April 2023 inspection. Notices are sent only to the most serious violations. Most homeowners have responded positively to these notices and the general condition of the ditches and hillsides has improved.

6/4/2022 - It would be good if the board would hold their meetings where we can call in or be on Zoom for the meeting. I liked having those options before. Also, if they could have meeting dates set up for the year with a set time. Now we never know when a meeting will be until just a few days before. Doesn't seem right.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our Board meeting. I appreciate your interest. The current board is internally debating two approaches to increasing access to the meeting: broadcasting via Zoom or scheduling meetings in the evening when the meeting is less likely to conflict with work schedules.
Our current Zoom option is not available after hours, so using both isn't an option. We have found it difficult to schedule the meetings too far in advance, but we are committed to notifying owners as soon as a meeting agenda is set. We believe that letting folks know in advance what will be covered is a critical aspect of transparency which has not always been observed.

4/25/2022 - [In reference to the previous post of 4/23] I also was disappointed not to receive a meeting notice. In full transparency, I would think that the new board would announce meetings to all homeowners and then offer to have them available via Zoom so we can all choose to attend no matter where we live. As the previous board did.
Please read the response to the previous message about meeting notices. The special meeting was scheduled in the evening to better fit the schedule of those who have jobs. The Zoom options available to the Board are not available in evenings. We are choosing meeting locations that are close to the neighborhood and offer plenty of free parking.

4/23/2022 - Just heard the New Board already had a "special meeting", but decided to save money and not e-blast the notice via Hawaiiana's office person (as normally done). So much for transparency, disappointed. Suggest they use this option to communicate and notify, until a better way can be figured out.
An eBlast for the special Board meeting was sent to all owners who have submitted their email to the Association. In addition, printed notices were posted on the Haku Mele mailboxes and the Association bulletin board over a week before the meeting. To date, Hawaiiana has refused to share their email list with us. We continue to negotiate this. The special meeting was not held at Hawaiiana because it is not available in the evenings. The upcoming May 12 meeting will not be held at Hawaiiana because their room is not available. Notice of the May 12 meeting will be shared after the agenda is finalized. I feel meeting notices are not very useful unless an agenda is provided.

1/2/2022 - Although my wife and I were awakened by the loud fireworks on New Year's Eve, we couldn't positively say that they originated in Pualani Estates. Did anybody see them and file a complaint? If so, fine. If not, perhaps the Board should consider offering a cash incentive ($100) to the first resident who files a complaint against another resident regarding illegal fireworks if confirmed and a $500 fine is levied.
11/20/2021 - HOA should install signs next to mailboxes so people won't park in front of our mailboxes. The post office will not deliver mail if they cannot access a blocked mailbox.
11/3/2021 - Directors should be elected by "district". Each phase of Pualani Estates could be considered a district and each district could have 2 candidates for Director. This might improve the diversity of the board to reflect a wider representation of "all of the faces" that own property in our community and break up "self-interest" groups from dominating the board. It also spreads the representation more evenly within the subdivision. Those running for the board should be supported by the Association where the Association will provide/pay for a minimum of one direct mail ad and/OR give each candidate a minimum of 5 minutes to speak at the annual meeting about their candidacy/platform.
9/23/2021 - There used to be email links to the CCR and DRC and other committees on the pualani website. I can't find these links on the new webpage. Why remove these links when they were so convenient if we needed them. The new site doesn't seem user friendly. Does everything need to go thru Hawaiiana? Don't they have to resend it to the DRC or CCR committee? Sounds like double work. Do they charge us for this service???? Can we have these links back on the home page?
9/13/2021 - The DRC recommendations on plants should include highlight indigenous/canoe plants for landscaping to ensure our endangered indigenous plants remain protected
9/12/2021 - How about offering a reward for catching the graffiti tagging?
4/1/2021 - I've been a home owner since 2011... I would like to be involved with getting together with other home owners to make things better... [For example] I'm willing to sign wave at the ditch next time to get more home owners at the meeting!... It's time to be more involved ! Let's Aloha the neighbors 💜
3/4/2021 - How about having the association sponsoring activities for Kupuna?
This was referred to the Board 7/20/2021
2/27/2021 - How about Pualani Pono recognizing community "heroes" on its website to create a sense of pride in our community? Am just saying...
2/26/2021 - It would be helpful if the coqui eradication team would provide some kind of toxicity information that would identify what potential harm to plants, pets, paint, etc. What if a homeowner is sensitive to certain chemicals and needs this information? A toxicity report would answer his questions and concerns.
